Speech From 8/21 Climate Strike

Hello, everyone! A topic that I wanted to discuss today is time with climate activism. There are many climate activists, and maybe you are one of them, that did not become a climate activist until you were an adult or became one when you were a child and have been involved ever since. Regardless, I am glad that you are here. In the media, we often see stories of youth climate activists and how inspirational they are, and I agree with that message, youth changemakers are incredibly important and inspirational, there is no doubt about that. But what I have seen from my personal experience, is adults not becoming climate activists or not being involved because they feel too old, and likewise young, passionate people not becoming climate activists because they think they are too young. What I say to that is, it is definitely understandable, climate activism can be intimidating and overwhelming, not just at first, but throughout the entire process, which can be lifelong. The main focus of this speech today is that it is never too early or too late. The climate movement needs everyone. Even if you are wondering, “Does this apply to me?”, it most definitely does and always will. Fighting the climate crisis is going to take everyone of all ages, races, genders, nationalities, etc. So, if this is your first involvement with the movement, welcome, and if you do this all the time, that you for staying, and we are glad to have you.
